Good in the last month

• Step bits: how did I not know about these? Bought a small set to put holes in a metal planter and they worked perfectly, then the smaller ones came in handy when I needed to make holes in some plastic electronic project cases I’d bought that refused to pop out parts where the parts were meant to pop out. Wound up making a hole just big enough to get the USB-C end inside the box
• Charlotte Cornfield’s new album. It’s half hit and half miss for me, but oh the hits

• Wake in Fright. Allow me to lead off by strongly suggesting you do not watch this, but it was an amazing ride. One of the best “horror movie that’s actually not horror, just reality through a different lens”. All that said, trigger warnings ahoy as it features a literal real kangaroo hunt. Never scrubbing that from my head. Plus side, it led to the end of the practice.
• Buying a used Thule and rehabbing it. My wife got one for camping and skiing a few years back and it was a giant pain to work with. Last year I decided I was annoyed enough to take apart the clamp pieces, wire brush them and paint them, rebuild the bumper bits with two-sided cushioned tape, swap out the old hardware for new and 3-in-1 oil every last metal bit I could find. And it was better. Fast-forward to camping last week and it might be even easier to use than last year.
• Camping at White Lake in Tamorth, New Hampshire: it is always SWASS-alert levels of hot in early August but the beach looking out at the lake sitting in front of a number of White Mountains is a “Wish You Were Here!” postcard type of view. And it’s just a damned friendly place.
• Exile on Main Street: not exactly news but what is called the Deluxe Version on Spotify has a whole second album of songs that didn’t make the cut and they are fantastic. Like some of the songs contain other, famous, bands’ whole oeuvre.
